Adventure travel is one of the fastest growing sectors of travel, and with the increased commoditization of the industry, it is sometimes difficult to get to the core of what adventure travel really means anymore.
Here at BikeHike the essential elements of adventure travel are discovering and exploring new places, challenging yourself physically and mentally, trying new experiences, and interacting with locals.
Our goal is to provide exhilarating and life-changing trips by getting our travellers actively off the beaten path and immersed in foreign cultures. In order to accomplish this we visit many rural areas in developing world nations, stay in locally run accommodations, eat in local restaurants, partner with local guides, and use local equipment.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS TO KEEP IN MIND
Needless to say, most of these elements will be different from what you’re accustomed to at home. You may experience power outages and hot water shortages. Often there is little access to familiar comforts such as western toilets, Caffè Americano, and yes, even Internet access. Scheduling can be more Caribbean than Swiss.
In order to enjoy your adventure to the fullest and have the trip of a lifetime, it is important that you learn about your destination, be accepting of differences, remain patient, and stay flexible. Once you have done that, put away any expectations you may have of a destination and embrace the unexpected that makes an adventure.
