Interesting Facts About Magellan Penguins
Penguins live 25-30 years and always come back to the same place where they were born for the mating season. They usually have 1 or 2 offspring. Males and females take turns to watch and feed the little ones. They swim 8 hours every day in search for food diving up to 35 metres/115 feet. The couples mate for life and only return to the colony during the reproductive season.
September 10-15, Penguins arrive from the Southern coast of Brazil and the Falkland Islands.
September 15-30, Penguins court and prepare their nests.
October 1-15, Penguins mate and lay their eggs.
November, The penguins brood their eggs.
Nov. 15 - Dec. 10, The baby penguins are born.
January- February, The baby penguins shed their feathers and begin to swim.
March 15- April 1, The penguins start to leave and head back to Brazil and the Falkland Islands.
