It Truly Was The Turkey Dream Trip
I've just returned from guiding our Turkey Dream Trip and it was truly a raging success. We had an intrepid group of 7 travellers, from all over the US. 5 of them were all returning clients, and 2 travelled with us for the first time.
Our 14-day trip began and ended in lively Istanbul, a truly cosmopolitan city where East meets West. Istanbul is in Europe and Asia, seperated by the Bospherous Sea. Many woman are dressed in colourful scarves and fashionable attire, including pointy shoes and many are simply adorned in modern attire. Dozens of striking mosques, including the famous Blue Mosque, are scattered throughout the city and live performers sing the call of prayer, 5 times per day. Once the sun sets they alluminate and are a dramatic site throughout Istanbul.
We spent 5 days in the fairy tale land of Cappadocia. The mighty volcanoes of the Central Anatolian Plateau erupted and spewed their contents across the land forming unique pillars and caves across the landscape. Here we explored the unique region on mountain bikes, horses and spent a morning soaring in a hot air balloon. We were surrounded by dozens of other colourful balloons, a wonderful site. This area was quite special for the cultural experiences we encountered including attending a village wedding henna party.
Then we headed south to the Mediterranian Sea. Antalya was our first stop. Here we visited the historal grand theatres of Aspendos and Termoses and stopped at The Whirling Dirvish Museum in Konya, the most religious centre in Turkey. We spent the final days in beautiful Kas where we had a day of sea kayaking and a dive to a historical shipwreck.
This is just a short glimpse of the wonderful 2 weeks we spent in Turkey, but we'll soon post a more descriptive overview.
Here's a few photos to entice you all to one day visit tantalizing Turkey. It's one of my favorite destinations on this earth.
cheerio,
Trish Sare
